Acupuncture & TCM for Female Fertility and Infertility

"Acupuncture helps women have babies" The Observer, 21/09/08

Improving and Increasing Female Fertility

The starting point or focus of treatment is to produce and ensure a regular and balanced menstrual cycle, including the correct timing of ovulation (see also Gynaecological Disorders). Your treatment will then progress with attention paid to factors according to different phases of the cycle, both to prepare for, and to produce a viable pregnancy.

Briefly-speaking, at the menstrual phase (during the period the first 1-3 days of the cycle), it is necessary to encourage a good discharge the uterus lining allowing for new growth of a healthy and smooth endometrium into which an embryo must attach any bury. Just before ovulation, we build the Yin-fluids and promote healthy ovulation by fortifying the Qi and Blood and thus a smooth passage of the egg in the fallopian tube. The luteal phase (post-ovulation) concentrates on maintaining a warm uterus and continually nourishing the embryo.

The above briefly explains the fundamentals in the approach to improving fertility with acupuncture and TCM, but each and every individual case is different and there may be a complex pattern of disease or dysfunction. In acupuncture and TCM, there are often further underlying deficiencies or excesses that need additional attention and treatment, such disorders are not recognised by Western medical doctors. So though you may be coming for treatment to improve your fertility, the comprehensive acupuncture and TCM diagnostic procedures may identify and correct many other factors that may be affecting your difficulty to conceive.

To provide complete holistic healthcare, a thorough assessment of each case is given at the first consultation prior to treatment.

Treatment of Specific Causes of Female Infertility

A number of conditions that contribute to female infertility are very successfully treated with acupuncture and TCM. Please see gynaecological disorders for specific diseases that can cause subfertility and infertility in women that are treated at the Hong Tao Clinic.

"Unexplained" Infertility

There are a number of additional factors that can hinder chances of conception in women. Many of theseare simply unrecognised in western orthodox medicine leaving the woman to retire believing she is "infertile", but "unexplained infertility" is NOT a diagnosis. Acupuncture and TCM adopts thoroughly comprehensive diagnosis and understanding of the individual's internal functional and physiological system energies, and can thus successfully identify any dysfunction(s) that are inhibiting any of the many factors involved in a smooth conception and pregnancy; once successfully rectified with the body working in a state of optimum health and balance, fertility is greatly increased allowing conception to occur naturally and healthily.

If you have been trying for a baby for several months to no avail, or if you have been diagnosed as being "infertile" or of low fertility by your doctor, book an appointment at one of our clinic locations and see how we can help you.

If you are thinking about, are about to begin, or have started IVF or IUI treatment, please see Acupuncture and IVF, IUI and ICSI.
